On the afternoon of October 14, 2026, Professor Andreas Papatheodorou from Greece was invited to give an academic lecture titled " Exploring Aviation and Tourism from an Economic Geography Perspective:Key Issues, Challenges and the Way Forward" to MIB students of the 2025 and 2026 cohorts.
During the lecture, Professor Papatheodorou analyzed core topics including the interdependence between transport and tourism, the macro market and financial performance of the air transport industry, and the multiplier effects of transport on regional economies. Combining global and Chinese market data, he took Hainan's tourism and aviation development as a case study to discuss strategic planning for emerging tourism destinations. He also offered policy recommendations on frontier issues such as aviation environmental protection, airport construction, and sustainable aviation fuel.

In the Q&A session, the professor exchanged views with students on research methods and data acquisition, airport construction and carbon emissions, and the hub transformation of inland airports.
